About the Author

Valerie Ramer

When I was 9 years old I imagined I would write a children’s book about a cat someday. I am so excited to have created Alastair McAllister Goes to School. My love of writing, children and cats all came together when the real-life exotic longhair kitty, Alastair McAllister entered my life. A muse was born! Observing the behavior between him and my other cats, Scout and Ollie, inspired this children’s book.

A fun fact about the cover of the book: Kat Harrington is the fabulous artist I worked with on this book. We were coming up with ideas about what the school should look like. I am from NY and have always loved the lions outside of the NY Public Library. If you look close at the cover, you will see one of those lions guarding the front of the Acatemy!

I have a degree in Theatre from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, NY. I have worked as an actress and a talent agent. For a dozen years I wrote and directed children’s theatre around the Seattle area. I also wrote the shooting scripts for 2 Lifetime movies. This is my first children’s book.
